Heat pump technology is one of the carbon reduction technological measures recommended by the International Energy Agency, which can efficiently utilize renewable energy to achieve low-carbon heating, and has been widely applied worldwide. The World Heat Pump Conference, organized by the International Energy Agency’s Technology Collaboration Programme on Heat Pumping Technologies (IEA HPT TCP), is the world’s leading platform for exchanging heat pump technology. This paper provides a review of the 14th World Heat Pump Conference in 2023, and presents the current heat pump policies. It explains the specific research work and achievements carried out in six research hotspots, namely industrial high-temperature heat pumps, environmentally friendly refrigerant research and development, ground-source heat pump technology, air-source heat pump technology, absorption heat pump technology, and heat pump and grid interaction technology. It also analyses the development trends and characteristics of heat pump technology in different regions, and looks forward to the future application of heat pump technology in the field of building heating and industrial heating.
